The 2011 BMW M5 is to be released in early 2011 and it has been confirmed that the powertrain will get a complete overhaul. The M5’s current V10 engine producing 500 horsepower will be replaced by a tuned 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 that is currently in the X5M (540hp) and we are guessing it will be putting out close to 600 horsepower. The pricing of the 2011 BMW M5 should start in the $87,000 to $90,000 range but the exact numbers will be known once the car is released in the early part of next year.

It’s safe to say that these changes BMW are making to the new M5 model should make drivers very happy. In recent years, the current M5 has been losing market share in that segment to competition such as the Audi RS6 which has a twin-turbo V10, Cadillac CTS-V which has a supercharged V8, and Mercedes E63 AMG which is powered by a V8.  The all new 2011 BMW M5 should be a game changer and is sure to spice things up.

Not many pictures of the 2011 M5 are available at the moment but it is speculated that the M5 might borrow some styling features from the 7-series. As for the interior, one should expect the usual from BMW. Plenty of leather and high quality parts will be used. The interior will also be roomier as the 5-series is now bigger than the previous models.

Other Specifications:

Pricing: Starting at $87,000 – $90,000

Engine: 4.4 liter V8 (Twin Turbocharged)

I've been writing about cars for the last 8 years, but I've loved everything with an engine since I was a kid. I'll take the sound of high revving naturally aspirated engine over music, any day! Favorite Car: Porsche Cayman GT4
