2020 Genesis GV80 – The Korean Luxury SUV

A few years ago, Hyundai entered the luxury car market with their stand-alone Genesis brand, similar to Toyota’s Lexus, Nissan’s Infiniti, and Honda’s Acura. The aim of Genesis is to take a bite out of the luxury market that has been dominated by the Europeans and Lexus; Infiniti and Acura are not big players in the luxury segment.

Genesis took the Hyundai Genesis and Equus and renamed them the Genesis G80 and G90, however, their first fully developed car was the G70, which has won a lot of awards and acclaim. I have personally reviewed the G70 and I really liked it. For their next act, Genesis is releasing an SUV, because we all know that’s what customers want nowadays. The 2020 Genesis GV80, fully developed by Genesis, is set to go on sale this year.

The GV80 will be offered with a variety of engines in different markets. Initially it will be offered with a 3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder diesel engine (this engine might not make it to Canada and the United States), producing 274 horsepower and 434 pound-feet of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

A 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engine will also be offered, producing 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. The GV80 will also be offered with a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 engine, producing 375 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque.

I've been writing about cars for the last 8 years, but I've loved everything with an engine since I was a kid. I'll take the sound of high revving naturally aspirated engine over music, any day! Favorite Car: Porsche Cayman GT4
