2011 marks the 35th anniversary of Volkswagen’s introduction of the Golf GTi (way back in 1976), to celebrate VW has come up with a special edition of the car called the “Golf GTi Edition 35”, just like the 30th anniversary model called “Edition 30”.

At first glance the “Edition 35” looks just like the regular GTi but upon a closer look you’ll notice the revised bumpers, glossy black front grill, darkened headlights and taillights, LED daytime running lights, tinted back windows, black mirror caps, and custom wheels.  In addition, the number “35” has been placed on both of the front fenders.

The Golf GTi Edition 35 is powered by the 2.0 liter turbocharged TSI engine that sees an increase of 25 ponies to a maximum of 235 horsepower.  Volkswagen hasn’t released official performance figures but has said the car will be more fun to drive.

The interior sees the number 35 placed on the seat backs, headrests, and door sills.  The seats are finished in cloth with a honeycomb pattern.  The standard gear knob has been replaced with a golf ball shaped unit.

The Volkswagen Golf GTi Edition 35 will be officially unveiled at Worthersee GTi meet in June and is currently available for order in Germany with a starting price of €30,425 (or about $43,600 with today’s exchange rate).

I've been writing about cars for the last 8 years, but I've loved everything with an engine since I was a kid. I'll take the sound of high revving naturally aspirated engine over music, any day! Favorite Car: Porsche Cayman GT4
