Video: Tuned Honda CR-Z Mugen

We first posted about the tuned Honda CR-Z by Mugen back in March; they continue to tune the car before being unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July.  In the meantime, Honda has released a short teaser video of the tuned Honda CR-Z Mugen, driving around on some scenic Welsh twisty roads.

I personally don’t really understand the point of tuning a hybrid car but to each their own.  Since this is an ongoing project, Honda hasn’t provided any power figures but we do know the 1.5 liter gasoline engine is now equipped with a supercharger.  The current 0 – 60 mph performance figures are similar to the Civic Type-R, or somewhere around the mid-six second mark.

Judging by these numbers, the combined horsepower should be around 200 HP at current tune levels, we’ll get full details in July when the tuning job is finished.  The car does see some aesthetic addition, the most notable being the massive rear-wing and some front LED lights in the intake part in the bumper.  Mugen says they’ve also reduced weight by 110 pounds (50 kg) and fuel economy is 50+ mpg in the ECO mode and mid-30 mpg when sport mode is selected.

I've been writing about cars for the last 8 years, but I've loved everything with an engine since I was a kid. I'll take the sound of high revving naturally aspirated engine over music, any day! Favorite Car: Porsche Cayman GT4
