Ugly Duckling At Geneva – Gumpert Tornante By Touring

new Gumpert Tornante by Touring

The not so pretty Gumpert Torante by Touring was showcased at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. But just because it is an ugly duckling doesn’t mean that it’s useless. According to the manufacturer, Gumpert, the Torante has best of both worlds with comfort and performance.

When they say performance, they mean serious business. The V8 bi-turbo engine is capable of putting down 700 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 663 lb-ft of torque at only 4,000 rpm. And when they say comfort, they’re not lying. The car features improved comfort and ventilation by using high quality sound deadening materials to keep the road noise to a minimum. The car is also surprisingly spacious with the Gumpert Tornante measuring 4.475 meters in length and 1.971 meters in width. The car also has wheel base of 2.7 meters while it weighs in at 1,300 to 1,400 kilograms. One of the reason Gumpert worked with the company, Touring Superleggera, was to make sure that the Tornante would have plenty of space for passengers and luggage as that is their specialty.

Power from the powerful motor is sent to the rear wheels through an automatic six-speed paddle shift gear box. The car is reportedly able to reach speeds of just over 300 km/h. The 0-100 km/h acceleration has not been released but expect it to be in the 4.5 second territory.

I don’t know about you guys but I’m not really a fan of the design.

I've been writing about cars for the last 8 years, but I've loved everything with an engine since I was a kid. I'll take the sound of high revving naturally aspirated engine over music, any day! Favorite Car: Porsche Cayman GT4
