BMW has released a very exclusive and limited edition of the M3 dubbed as the CRT (Carbon Racing Technology). This sexy beast was unveiled during a BMW M event right before the Nurburgring 24-Hour race.

This limited edition utilizes the body styling of the current M3 sedan in conjunction with technology used on the M3 GTS Coupe. And to take things even further, the car heavily uses CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastic) to reduce the overall weight of the vehicle. The BMW M3 CRT is being used as the platform to introduce the worldwide debut of new production process for the CFRP materials in the automotive world. CFRP material will also be used on the i3 EV hatchback and i8 hybrid sports coupe both of which are to enter production soon.

On the M3 CRT, CFRP is used extensively to make the front airdam, rear spoiler, front seats, and the bonnet. The uses of a custom titanium exhaust system along with other lightweight materials, the BMW engineers have been successful in reducing just shy of a 100 pounds of extra weight from the stock BMW M3. Other goodies include an upgraded 4.4 liter V8 beast that puts down 450 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. BMW claims that the M3 CRT is capable of reaching 0-100km/h in just 4.4 seconds thanks to the 7-speed M Double Clutch transmission with Drivelogic. The top speed of the BMW M3 CRT is electronically limited to 180mph …..only! BMW will only be building 67 of these vehicles and will be available in an exclusive Frozen Polar Silver paint.

I've been writing about cars for the last 8 years, but I've loved everything with an engine since I was a kid. I'll take the sound of high revving naturally aspirated engine over music, any day! Favorite Car: Porsche Cayman GT4
