New Details On Lamborghini Aventador 834

Lamborghini didn’t present any cars at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show, however, autoblog did get to speak to the Sant’ Agata based company’s CEO Stephen Winkelmann and R&D head Mauirizio Reggiani about the Murcielago replacement car.

As it turns out the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 might now be called Lamborghini 834 (I’m still betting on Aventador with some numbers in the name).  Lamborghini wants the Aventador 834 to be “the trendsetter for the next decade”, which will be featuring a V12 engine, all-wheel drive, big air-intakes, and of course the famous Lambo scissor doors.

The new supercar will use an all carbon fiber body that is stiffer and lighter than the Murcielago’s body; the body was developed in conjunction with Boeing and the University of Washington.

The engine will be a 6.5 liter V12 (we already know that from the leaked dealer guide) and will produce 690 horsepower at 8,450 rpm and 590 pound-feet (799 Nm) of torque at 5,500 rpm.  The engine has 18% more power over its predecessor and produces 20% less CO2.  The engine will be mated to a 7-speed single-clutch Independent Shifting Rod (ISR) transmission, the single-clutch was chosen over a dual-clutch because its 20 kg lighter weight.  The transmission will feature five modes; corsa, sport, auto sport, strada, and auto strada.  Strada stands for comfort with gear changes happening in 300 milliseconds while 150 ms in sport and 50 ms in corsa.

The Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 834 will use a pushrod suspension; it will be equipped with 400 mm carbon disk brakes in the front and 380 mm disks at the rear.  The interior space has been increased with larger drivers/occupants in mind.

I've been writing about cars for the last 8 years, but I've loved everything with an engine since I was a kid. I'll take the sound of high revving naturally aspirated engine over music, any day! Favorite Car: Porsche Cayman GT4
