An Elegant Monster: Jaguar XKR-S

Working in a luxury car dealership, I’ve had the pleasure of driving Bentley, Aston Martin, Range Rover and Jaguars. When I heard that Jaguar was going to release a new version of the XKR at the Geneva Auto Show, I thought to myself, “How can they improve upon a beast like that??”

First off, the Jaguar XKR is not for the weak hearted. Once you hit the right pedal, the car goes like nothing. The power hits you hard and pins you to the seat reaching out for dear life. So how can they improve upon the already amazing XKR??

By using their 5.0 L V8 engine, they have upgraded the supercharger. The XKR-S now churns out 550 horsepower and 505 pound-feet (685 Nm) of peak torque. That’s 40 more horsepower than the XKR. The extra horsepower blasts the 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds to a top speed of 186 mph.

Jaguar-XFR-S-RearWith improvements to the engine, Jaguar has extensively upgraded the exterior with aggressive styling. The Jaguar XKR-S receives a new aerodynamic package with an aggressive front bumper, re-profiled side skirts, extra air vents on the hood and bumper, a larger rear wing, and a redesign rear bumper which now implements a diffuser and quad tail pipes.

The engineers at Jaguar re-tuned the suspension and reprogrammed the Adaptive Dynamic system. The XKR-S also receives new lightweight alloy wheels with high performance tires.

I've been writing about cars for the last 8 years, but I've loved everything with an engine since I was a kid. I'll take the sound of high revving naturally aspirated engine over music, any day! Favorite Car: Porsche Cayman GT4
