Ultimate Sleeper: Edo Competition BMW M5 Dark Edition

Some people might call station wagons mommy-mobiles but they’d be dead wrong for thinking this Edo Competition tuned M5 wagon is just another grocery-getting station wagon.  Called the Dark Edition, the tuning package is based on the old BMW M5 Touring (E60).

The BMW M5 Dark Edition looks very sinister and could possibly be the ultimate modern-day sleeper were it not for the M5 badges and those sweet looking wheels.  The exterior is all-black with black 20” rims that are wrapped in 255/30 R20 front and 285/30 R20 rear tires.  The minor upgrades to the bodywork include a new front apron with fog lights, a new rear apron, and a roof mounted spoiler.

The BMW M5 is already a stellar performer in the power department but Edo Competition went ahead and tinkered with the 5.0 liter V10.  They added high-flow air filters and catalytic converters, a high performance exhaust system, and re-tuned the ECU.  The end result is 555 horsepower (up from 500) and 413 pound-feet (560 Nm) of torque (up from 384 lb-ft/521 Nm).

The new performance numbers are quite impressive, especially for a “station wagon”.  The Edo Competition BMW M5 Dark Edition can now reach the 62 mph (100 km/h) mark in just 4.2 seconds (compared to 4.7 seconds in stock form).  The 62 mph to 124 mph (100 km/h – 200 km/h) acceleration is achieved in less than 10 seconds with a top speed of 190 mph (305 km/h), which is accomplished with the removal of the electronic speed limiter.

I've been writing about cars for the last 8 years, but I've loved everything with an engine since I was a kid. I'll take the sound of high revving naturally aspirated engine over music, any day! Favorite Car: Porsche Cayman GT4
