New Light Weight BMW Z2 Roadster

New-BMW-Z2-RoadsterThere have been rumors about a new roadster from BMW, which probably will be called the BMW Z2 Roadster.  There finally has been some concrete information obtained on the sporty little car which will slot under the Z4 Roadster, which has been getting heavier and bigger as it has progressed over the years and has lost touch with its roots and is turning more into a grand touring car rather than the light weight roadster it was meant to be.

The BMW Z2 Roadster will most likely be based on the new 1-series convertible and will cost considerably less than the Z4 and will be in direct competition with the Mazda MX-5 Miata roadster.  The BMW Z2 will weigh less than 2,200 pounds (1,000 kg) and will use a cloth top to keep weight and cost down.  The Z2 will be offered with a multitude of 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engines with the base model producing around 120 horsepower and the top of the line turbocharged engine producing 250 horsepower.  There may also be a hybrid Z2 Roadster offered.

The production model BMW Z2 Roadster will be available in 2013 for a price of around $30,000 for the base model.  Spy photographers have caught the Z2 testing in California.

I've been writing about cars for the last 8 years, but I've loved everything with an engine since I was a kid. I'll take the sound of high revving naturally aspirated engine over music, any day! Favorite Car: Porsche Cayman GT4
