When we read about vehicles being tuned, they’re usually gasoline powered; it is somewhat rare to see diesel powered tuned vehicles, although it is quite popular in Europe. German car tuners Kicherer decided to take the Mercedes-Benz GL 420 CDI and create a new program called the Sport Black.

The Mercedes GL is powered by a 4.2 L V8 common rail diesel engine. In its stock form, the V8 outputs 306 horsepower and 516 pound-feet (700 Nm) of torque. Kicherer has increased that output to 380 horsepower and 664 pound-feet (900 Nm) of torque. The added Power Convertor to GL 42 Sport Black also sharpens the electronic gas pedal curve, to give the GL a much better response upon acceleration. The new exhaust system really opens up the roar of the diesel engine.

The Airmatic suspension has been tweaked to better handle the added horse power. The GL sits on new 10 x 22 inch rims and 295/35/22 XXL tires.

The GL 42 Sport Black is covered in matte black foil, with its exclusive off road package offered from Kicherer. All the grills, including the Mercedes star are painted black. A new sports wheel is added on the inside.

I've been writing about cars for the last 8 years, but I've loved everything with an engine since I was a kid. I'll take the sound of high revving naturally aspirated engine over music, any day! Favorite Car: Porsche Cayman GT4
